Need to Lose Weight?

Simplify the Process!

Losing weight can be more complicated than exercise and watching what you eat. Weight loss takes a balance of exercise and nutrition. There are so many programs our there promising you results. This is not a program or a promise. Weight loss requires a change in behavior. This is a guide to assist you in making decisions to change your behavior and educate yourself on what behaviors aid in weight loss.

Break Down the Process

  • Exercise- Commit to exercising at least 5 days a week at the same time every day. Now is the time to consider the 5:00am club. Get up 45 minutes early and exercise 30 of those minutes. I promise you, if you do this for 30 days, you will be committed. Make sure whatever you chose continues to challenge you. There are a lot of great aps that help you maintain commitment and variety. For me the Asana Rebel: Get in Shape ap balances my budget, need for cardio and strength training, and calms my body and mind.
  • Nutrition- Our bodies need a balanced nutrition to function properly. Ideally you would get all needed nutrients from food intake; however, this is not easily obtained with available food in today’s market. Up your nutrition with supplements.
  • Hydration- Drink water all day! Your body will thank you. Not Gatorade, not iced tea, not sparkling water. These are all fine to layer in once or twice a day, but your body needs water. If your like me, over time water becomes boring and I want something different and with flavor. I chose either fresh lime or lemon wedges to add to my water daily. One slice in the am last all day as I fill me water. You can also try a water supplement to add flavor to your water (becareful to watch ingredients). Grab a Tervis 24 oz tumbler. Fill it each morning and challenge yourself to empty this 3 time a day. I fill mine 4 or 5 times a day. I carry a filled 48 oz water bottle like Sustain Tritan BPA-Free Water Bottle. I use this to fill my Tervis throughout the day so that I have easy access to water.
  • Calorie Intake- Do you know there are 4 categories to counting calories? Enter your age, gender, height, weight, and activity level at Calculator.net and calculate your calories per day to achieve your desired level of weight loss. A great calorie counter ap is MyNetDiary and what’s even better, it has a free version that has everything you need to count your calories and track weight loss results. Stay consistent with your calories intake during the week and then let yourself cheat a bit on the weekends (or two other days a week that work for you). Just don’t blow the diet completely. Be patient. YOU MUST have a calorie deficit to lose weight. Commit to your new diet and plan for 30 days. It takes your body time to adjust.
